About Us

A little bit of how our lives changed for the better...

It all started in 2001 and I've never looked back..
Two years of college of animal care (Sept 95-97) covering veterinary science, kennel & cattery management, canine psychology & behaviour, dog grooming and many more interesting modules qualified me to manage 3 different kennel and cattery businesses over North Lincolnshire.  Having a thirst for self-employment and desperation for another dog I carried on my studies and specialised in dog grooming management for another two years whilst working full time in the different kennel businesses. I opened my dog grooming studio in 2001 in Barrow Upon Humber.  Finally working for myself and from home, my research began looking for a tough strong independent dog that would be able to keep up with my love of the great outdoors.  I spent most of my free time rock climbing, mountain hiking and camping, the next dog most be able to keep up with me!
In those days internet was extremely rubbish and very slow. Any searches of the 'Alaskan Malamute' came up with a handful of pages, and most not in the UK.  So I purchased a copy of 'Dogs Today' magazine and there in the very back was a tiny box of information stating to ring the Alaskan Malamute Club of Great Britain (Now AMCUK) I did, and was given strict instructions of write to this lady stating who I am and why I am good enough to ever own a Malamute.  Hesitant of this 'strict' rule I put pen to paper to a Mr & Mrs Broadberry (Hi Jill... ;)   and after receiving a letter back a few days later saying that they will be in touch in the future and I need to get to some dog shows to meet them and meet plenty of Malamutes.  They were still a rare breed back then and not many where at dog shows, so the Malamute Club of GB open show and Crufts was the best bet.  Here we heard the news that Jill & Jim couldn't make Crufts as they had puppies at home.  The invite came. We passed the Malamute test.
We had enough dog knowledge and enthusiasm so be lucky enough to have our first Malamute 'Kinley' (Hyteton Apollo Kinley) live with us in June 2002.  The rest is history.....
We have had seven Malamutes in total over the years and one litter.  Currently we are- one female, one van, 5 dogs with E.U passports  creating a lifetime of no limits fun.

We have a thirst for learning and fully respect those of more experience and knowledge.  We attend as many seminars as we can on judging and 'hands on' learning.
I have attended and passed the following UK Kennel Club seminars and assessments:-Attended Alaskan Malamute Club GB Breed seminar - 16/11/02

We also support breed rescues in all sled dog clubs doing home checks, transport, temporary housing and grooming when required in the North Lincolnshire area.  We can be found manning the breed both at Crufts on discover dogs educating new and existing Malamute owners and have our dogs there for hands on due to fantastic temperaments.

We have many years experience in Alaskan Malamutes regarding health, training, working them in teams (mixed with other kennels/sexes/ages) and are always happy to share this love of the breed.  We have experienced every life stage having lost 2 Malamutes, raised our own litter and have many years of experience in the management of Cushing's disease, Thyroidism and canine cancer.  We have specialist contacts all over the U.K and Europe for veterinary assistance and guidance in health care and emergency treatment.  We also have many years of dog passport travel (2013+) and know all the best places to travel to and where to camp and which ferries are the best for dogs.  We have maps/data and routes all over France, Denmark, Norway and Sweden for sledding and backpacking adventures, including hidden lagoons!

We are also an indoor instructor in rock climbing, on the BMC (s)Mountain Leader scheme, a member of many outdoor sports clubs and after completing a Certificate of Higher Education at OU,  CertHE (Open), we have a degree in applied canine behaviour & training at Hull University/Bishop Burton which fits perfectly around our Winter travelling and sports.  We graduated in 2023 and have stayed on for 2 more years, where we will specialise in 'breed specific' tendencies which is over looked in today's canine behaviour issues. Open for business in 2025.
